Turmeric! One of the most googled foods.

It’s got a lot going for it. If you buy the fresh stuff, it’s fragrant, earthiness adds a bright and sunny touch to pretty much everything. Add a little to smoothies, eggs, veggie + rice bowls, curry dishes, or make a golden milk latte.

Golden Milk Latte: Coconut milk, grass-fed butter, turmeric, raw honey + cinnamon.

Curcumin is the main active ingredient in turmeric, and as it turns out – is strongly anti-inflammatory. It’s so powerful that it matches the effectiveness of many anti-inflammatory, over-the-counter drugs (but without the unwanted side effects).

It is now believed that chronic, low-level inflammation plays a major role in almost every modern-day, Western disease. This includes: heart disease, cancer, metabolic syndrome, Alzheimer’s and various degenerative conditions.

Curcumin is fat soluble, so to increase it’s absorption enjoy your spoonful of turmeric with a healthy fat source – like a creamy avocado.

Fun Fact: the amazing avocado fruit has double the magnesium of a banana – making it an excellent food for healing + increasing calcium absorption.

I always believe fresh is best. Dried turmeric powder, when organically sourced, is a close runner-up. Fresh turmeric has a fairly high natural oil content, which is magically intertwined with all those curcuminoids (the good stuff). It’s this coloured oil that stains and sticks to everything!

Sometimes I even add a little turmeric to my dogs raw food. It seems to be help keep their joints + liver happy.
